| Subject: False Equivalences Thu Apr 02, 2020 5:57 pm | |
| <The camera fades in on the front hall of an apartment as a door closes behind it. It enters the living room, which shows signs of residence despite being empty. A flat-screen television broadcasts new reports following the presidential race between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, a small pile of books lays stacked upon the carpeted floor before it, there are a number of #CTS signs and flags strewn about, and a door leading to the balcony remains open. As the camera goes toward the balcony door, we see Jacob Knight leaning on the railing and looking out on a view of the city rooftops and streets around him, his phone sitting snug in his pocket as it faintly plays Pete Seeger's "Which Side Are You On?" He continues to focus on the view as he begins to speak.>
"A false equivalence is a logical fallacy in which an equivalence is drawn between two subjects based on flawed or false reasoning. A fallacy of inconsistency, if you will. 'Apples to oranges.' I've seen them countless times in the news recently as corporate pundits choose to compare a Jewish democratic socialist and his followers to the Third Reich."
<There is a rough cut to footage from MSNBC as Chuck Todd refers to the senator's supporters as his 'digital brown-shirt brigade' and Chris Matthews compares Sanders' win in the Nevada caucuses to the fall of France in 1940.>
"However, it seems in recent weeks, Pro Wrestling Nova has produced two of their own asinine comparisons. First let's talk about the new Horrorcore Openweight Champion. A paper champion, I might add. For some inconceivable reason, there's a desire to equate the Ian Dickenson from Royalty Wrestling League to the one here and now in Pro Wrestling Nova. The truth of the matter is those two versions of the same Ian are completely different! The Ian Dickenson I saw at the War Pit here in New York City truly earned his Hardcore Championship in RWL in one of the most violent gauntlet matches I have ever seen."
<There is a cut to a series of highlights of Ian Dickenson's performance in the Hardcore Gaunlet, ending with him holding up RWL's hardcore title.>
"He wants to act like that the new shiny Horrorcore belt he's got wrapped around his waist is one he's earned here in PWN but he hasn't yet; not until he's proven himself at Chapter Four. Let's acknowledge it for what it is. He was given a handout by management because they felt sorry for him, as if they intend to pay for the sins of the dead and buried. But that couldn't be the case, could it? Otherwise, I wouldn't have to go through another tournament to prove that I am the best wrestler in this promotion! Instead I would have that belt sitting right here on my shoulder, just like the ONE World Championship did in Royalty Wrestling League. Yet they have the nerve to not only hand out a new title to Ian, they have the gall to equate me to Jericho fucking Morton."
<We see a shot of Jericho, a wide grin on his face, standing with his fellow members of Cerberus from Chapter One before we return to Jacob.>
That one really rubs salt in the wound. If people want to think that Jericho and I are on the same level, they can go on and continue to delude themselves because they are so far from the truth! He says he's a man that's looking to bring progress to this industry. What's he done to change this industry like I have? Because flirting with female talent and making out with referees to distract them from in-ring action isn't any sort of real progress if you ask me!
<We cut to more footage from Chapter One of Jericho speaking with Miho Li backstage and kissing Jessi Ritter during Ian Dickenson's match with Maverick Spyke. As he speaks on his tournament opponent, he becomes more and more worked up.>
"He wants to change this industry to better himself and his little group of rejects, but I want to change this industry to better each and every one of us who love this business! And I intend to do that here in PWN by giving this company a champion they can be proud of; a champion that embodies not what professional wrestling could be, but what it is going to be. People like him are scared of revolutionaries because they fear change will jeopardize their status and will do anything to maintain the status quo. They discredit you, they try to silence you, they throw labels on you like "socialist" to try and scare people away from you or to dehumanize you, as if that will deter them from achieving progress. So come April 3rd, I am going to put an end to the falsehoods that have been put out into the world, I am going to show Jericho what it's like to be in the ring with a real revolutionary, and I am going to move on in this tournament to be the Knight in Shining Armor and the World Champion that Pro Wrestling Nova deserves."
<The camera moves back and away from Jacob as he closes his eyes and hums along to the song playing from his phone as we fade to black.> | |
